May 12, 2003 Alumni Council Meeting
Recorded by Jeffrey Paul Bobrick
1. Introductions
Present: Jeffrey Paul Bobrick, Lewis Frisch, Stephanie Segal Hartman, Jackie Keveson, Bob Solomon and Eric Weiss
Via Conference Call: Charlie Ledley and Juliet Ross
2. Executive Director’s Report – Jeffrey Paul Bobrick
This meeting is a basic planning meeting. What we discuss today and work on in the next month will determine the effectiveness and ease of the June 10th Alumni Council meeting (which will be a big and interesting meeting) and our summer plans.
Progress is being made on web searchable database. Ian Schleiffer will be e-mailing a link to Noah, Charlie and I in the next few days to test it before it is rolled out.
3. Legal Report – Eric Weiss
No legal news, so all is well.
4. Scholarship Report – Charlie Ledley
We will be sending two amazing kids to Buck’s Rock this summer. All involved with Friends of Buck’s Rock have been working very hard these last two years and we have a tangible result. We’re very excited we’ve partnered with the 92nd Street Y.
The first camper has gone through the admission process with Mickey and Laura Morris and been accepted. He is a dancer, and a great person.
Marc Richter has very generously donated a portion of his salary this summer for the second camper to attend. He has been selected and has not yet gone through the admission process with the camp.
Jeffrey and Group: Thank you Charlie for stepping in with your work on this program and helping to change lives for the better. Thank you Marc. Let’s hold a conference call next Monday, May 19th at 8pm to discuss the Scholarship Program and make sure the campers have a smooth transition.
Stephanie: Erika Blumberg’s mother has made a substantial donation to Friends of Buck’s Rock to help select and send a student from Erika’s school, Bank Street, to Buck’s Rock. We are very excited about this and will follow up.
5. Business/Treasurer’s Report – Bob Solomon
We have some recent donations.
A statement from Buck’s Rock for the first camper accepted will be sent back with payment.
The Concert for Friends of Buck’s Rock garnered a profit of $800. While attendance was lower than hoped for, the business arrangement with venue allowed for greater overall profit.
6. Fundraising Report – Stephanie Segal Hartman
The Concert for Friends of Buck’s Rock was an incredible event. We have great feedback from so many people. Many thanks to Ivan, of course, and all performers and volunteers.
We expect higher attendance next year, and will adapt different strategies to get the word out about the event. It takes a certain number of impressions for people to take action (snail mail, e-mail, web site, newsletter, phone calls, etc.).
Charlie: Thanks to everyone involved for making this concert work, especially Stephanie.
7. Events Outreach – Lewis Frisch
Web site is tidy, up to date, ever changing for our members.
Events Outreach has been quiet, in a holding pattern. We’re looking forward to database progress and more traffic on the web site to pull people in and get the word out.
Bones project coming along well. 20 people signed up so far. We’re working with Michael Aschenbrenner and Mickey Morris on planning dinner.
Stephanie, Jeffrey, Marc: Discussion on possible New Milford 8 Event at camp.
8. Membership Report – Juliet Ross
There is no current “Oy Vey” (Youth Volunteer) activity. Once Scholarship news is out, we’ll work on this project again.
BRASS (Buck's Rock Alumni Search & Seek) project on hold for a few weeks because of hard drive crash.
Alumni Finder application about to go out. We will use Alumni Finder as a resource for BRASS.
9. Newsletter Report – Jackie Keveson
Plan to have newsletter ready by midsummer.
Charlie: Good topic for newsletter could be Political Consciousness at Buck’s Rock
All agree. Discussion about this. We will plan to contact potential authors in the coming weeks.
10. Future Meetings
All members of Friends of Buck’s Rock are welcome to attend Alumni Council Meetings
Next Meeting: Tuesday, June 10th, 7pm
