About Friends of Buck's RockAbout Friends of Buck's RockFriends of Buck's Rock, Inc., founded in June 2001, is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the educational ideals and life philosophy established by the founders of Buck's Rock Work Camp in 1942. Friends of Buck's Rock is a separate entity from the camp, now known as Buck's Rock Performing and Creative Arts Camp, with the primary goal of establishing a Scholarship Fund. This Fund will bring adolescents to the camp that would not otherwise have the opportunity to attend, empowering them with a sense of self-worth that will assist them in attaining their life goals. The Scholarship ProgramThe Scholarship Committee works to send campers to Buck's Rock who might not otherwise have such an opportunity. It is our priority to build a thorough scholarship program that goes beyond simply raising money and spending it. We provide support and transition services to make sure the experience is a successful one. Many factors go into our selection process. Creative gifts and potential, level of maturity and likelihood to take full advantage of the benefits of Buck's Rock are some of the most important ones. We are always seeking volunteers in general to help brainstorm. We are also looking for help with: - program support: connecting with campers before they go and when they are there. - bargain hunting: finding discounts or donations of goods or services for campers - program design: developing the mechanisms and criteria for selection and ensuring smooth transitions and support services.
